DUNEDIN.

The "Daily Times" of the 3rd instant reports :—: —

Since the receipt of the mails via Panama there has been a slight change for the better. Transactions, though not individually large, have been tolerably numerous, and the demand for supplies, both for the interior and for the ports along the Coast, improving. In the markets there is no material change to report, nor have prospects for any particular staples noticeably altered. Breadstuffs have been very quiet; and the Bales of imported particularly small. For teas of good descriptions, a maintained enquiry has been experienced, and some fair sized parcels changed hands — prices firm. Boxes of good description teas are scarce. Transactions in provisions have been em'all. There is but little new cure bacon and haras available, and old stocks will not, in the face of expected supplies, sell without difficulty. Butter continues plentiful, and can only be placed at a low figure. In

building materials, the only item of interest is the sale of the Parisian's cargo of Orcgun timber reported as placed in one line, but price withheld. The recent auction salo of sugars ex Jessie Kelly of necessity stopped privato operations to a great extent ; there have, however, been buyers for medium crystals, and full prices have been paid for some small parcels of these qualities. The market is again supplied by the unexpected arrival of the Oberlin with about 11,000 small bags. In spirits, wines, and malt liquors, there has been no move j and except a slight demand for ordinary sherries, these articles have scarcely been asked for.
