Thursday, August 22. The case of George Young, of the late firm of Younghusband and Co., for embezzlement, Avas dismissed by Judge Gwynne to day. The civic entertainment to Prince Alfred is to consist of a banquet in the Town-hall. The annual ploughing match and show of stock is largely attended. Three thousand five hundred bags of sugar, ex Migrator, were sold to-day. The prices showed a slight advance on. last rates. Good ration sugars brought L26to L 27 12s 6d ; yellow counters, L3O to L 33 15s ; yellow crystals, L 33 15s ; white crystals, L 35 15s to L 39 10s. The corn market is unaltered. Friday, August 23. The corn market has improved somewhat. A sale of 10,000 bushels of wheat has been made at 4s fid. Other transactions are pending. The tickets for the ball to be given to Prince Alfred arc going off slowly. The Government has received news froiii the inspector at the north-west bend, stating that there is no scab iv that district. In general business there is nothing doing.
