Adelaide, July 8. Mr Rounsevell haspurchaspdthe whole of the plant of Messrs H. Hill and Co,, and is now tobe contractor for the delivery of goods per railway. July 10. A despatch has been received from the Home Government stating that the Governor's Salary Increase Bill has been assented to. Preparations are being made to receive the companies of the 50th Regiment. There were no transactions in wheat or flour to-day. Buyers and sellers are waiting for the effects of the English mail news to become apparent. It has been officially announced that the Duke of Edinburgh will visit South Australia. _ . Several vacancies are now occurring in 1 both Houses of Parliament. July 11. The Government have received a despatch from the present Colonial Secretary expressing his approval of the course recommended by Earl Carnarvon in dealing with the Boothby case. This is the course at present being followed by the Government.

A petition has boen presented at homo by South Australians interested in the Moonta Mine, praying that the Equity Bill passed here may not be assented to, as Mr Boucaut, the attorney of the promoters, was also Attorney- General, and, as such, introduced the bill for the simple purpose of ousting the petitioners of their rights. ' Advices from England as to the sales of shipments of wheat are most satisfactory. The Treasurer's budget is to be brought forward on the 18th inst. July 12. George Young, of the late firm of Younghusband, jun., and Co., was brought up to-day at the police court, on a charge of fraudulent conversion to his own use of a bill of exchange for L2OOO, lodged with hini by Barrett and May. He was committed for trial. Bail was refused. Business is frightfully dull, and the news by the mail is not likely to improve it. Wheat is very firm. Sales have been mads at 4s lid. Flour is unaltered. There are no transactions, owing to the high price asked by the millers. It appears from the report of the Water Commission, that great carelessness prevailed in the Public Works Department during the past four years ; the present amount of overcharge by the Government is estimated at from LIO.OOO to L 12.000.

Private advices state that if the South Australian Government does not refund the money paid by the English purchasers of land in the Northern Territory, the S. A. debentures will fall in the market. The scene in Court yesterday between the Judges was brought under the notice of Parb'ament by Mr Strangways, who implied that Justice Gwynne made a statement to the effoct that he would not

sit on the Bench so long as Judge Boothby remained on it; also that the Chief Justice seemed to concur in these observations, and said that feelings of antipathy should not exist among the Judge 3. # j Mr James Peacock is dangerously ill. July 18. Prince Alfred, on his arrival, will be "asked to lay the foundation stone of the Victoria Tower at the new Post Office.

Letters are appearing in the papers in favor of Judge Boothby. A public meeting is to be held at the Town Hall to aid the Flood Relief Fund of New South Wales.

The Governor's health is improving. Protection meetings are being held with the view of influencing the forthcoming elections for the Legislative Council The corn market is quiet ; wheat is quoted at 4s lOd to 4s lid; flour unaltered.

July 19. The Treasurer's financial statement, made yesterday, shows a deficit of L 191.000, but without deducting intending retrenchment to the amount of L 150,000. Should the intended improvements be sanctioned. L 2,000,000 are to be borrowed, being about Ll2 per head of the inhabitants. It is proposed to meet the present deficiency by borrowing on short-dated bonds. The balance of the emigration fund will at the end of the year amount to L 321,000. The Budget has been favorably received. ' A notice of motion has been tabled in the Assembly for granting a pension to Judge Boothby. Messrs William Morgan and John Crozier are likely to be returned for the Legislative Council. General business is dull. There are buyers of whent at 4s 9d, but sellers ask 4s 10|d. Sales of flour have been effected at Lll 10s.

Tenders have been issued for L 50.000 of Six per Cent. Bonds.
