Yachts Make Good Times In Cross-Strait Race
BLENHEIM, Last Night (PA)—Despite a strong northerly wind and choppy seas the ten yachts contesting this year’s cross-Strait race from Wellington to Tory Channel and then to Picton made good times. Ttye main race, for the Seabird Cup, was won for the second time in succession by the Wellington boat Restless (H. Smith) off the scratch mark, in shrs 40min. Second was Raukawa (K. Livingstone) on lOmin. handicap, shrs 57min., and third was Nanette (J. Maddever) on 70min. handicap. 6hrs 3min. The J. T. Wilson Memorial Trophy (Evans Bay Yacht and Motor Boat Club) for the boat first past Clay Point in Tory Channel, was won by Restless with Maranui second and Wakerere third. The Wellington-Picton race on sealed handicaps was won by Maranui (3hrs), 7hrs 51min, with Nanette (3hrs), Bhrs second, and Restless (scratch), 9hrs smin, third.
