OTAGO FIGHTS BACK AGAINST CANTERBURY

I CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night (6 jp.m.), —After a very bad start on the first day, Otago fought back strongly In the Plunket Shield match against Canterbury at Lancaster Park and although at stumps on the third day today the home team was still in a winning position, the game is anything but over. On the first day Canterbury scored 104 for three wickets in reply to Otago's 139, but excellent spin bowling by A. M. Moir and sound support from G. W. Overton brought about a dramatic collapse, the last six wickets falling for 12 runs. Otago again fared indifferently in the second innings, but the ninth and tenth tenth wicket partnerships added 80 in a most enjoyable display and Canterbury was left needing 201 to win. Light showers delayed the start for 50 minutes on Saturday and until lunch the Otago bowlers were handicapped by a wet ball. Scores: OTAGO
