Auckland Ferries Were Interrupted By A Stop-Work Meeting
s AUCKLAND, Yesterday (PA). — - Ferry services across the Auckland > harbour were suspended from 9 I o'clock until 12.30 today, while ferry / employees held a stopwork meeting to i discuss the smallness of recent wage ''increases. The stoppage occurred at thhe height, of the final Christmas Ishopping rush, and long lines of motor II vehicles waited at the vehicular ferry - I terminals. -| The meeting, which was largely ats tended, instructed the union executive - Jo consider the de-registration of the - union and wage negotiations with the 11 ferry company. The meeting carried t'a long resolution expressin.': “disgust e ’ at. the company’s refusal to grant a | reasonable increase in wages as res quested in conciliation proceedings with the wage increase granted by n 1 the Court in tile recent award.” It e also protested against the increased i cosls ot living and directed that, if necessary, a further slopwork meeting be held.
