King To Broadcast A Special Message To The Australian People
CANBERRA, Yesterday.—The King will broadcast a special message to the Australian people on New Year’s Eve to inaugurate the jubilee year of the Commonwealth. Announcing this, the Governor-General said: 'I hope wherever possible, whether in large cities or small country communities, people will gather on New Year's Eve to pay thanksgiving to our Lord and our forefathers for this great nation in which we live, and also to welcome our jubilee year.' The King’s broadcast will be heard just before midnight. In Sydney a thanksgiving service will be held at the showground. A musical programme will be provided by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian singers Peter Dawson and Strella Wilson.
