Girl Guides’ Local Association

A meeting of the executive of the Girl Guide Local Association was held in the League for the Hard of Hearing Rooms recently, when reports of the recent conference were given by the delegates, Mrs Blake and Mrs C. R. (White. The District Commissioner. Miss E. Brown, presided. Sympathy was expressed with the relatives of Ihe late Miss Montgomery M p ore, one time president of the association, and also with the relatives of Mrs A. H. F. Wall, who died recently. Mrs Wall had been nresident of the association and was District Commissioner several years ago. Miss Brown extended a welcome to Mrs Fitzsimmons, a commissioner from Wellington, who recently came to Wanganui to reside Mrs Blake spoke on her impressions at the conference and mentioned the Personalities she had met there, also the humorous incidents that occurred. Mrs C. R. White, president of the Local Association, dealt with the remits discussed at conference. She said the Wanganui remit “That the company committees be reinstated,” caused a great deal of discusstion, and it was decided that it should be dealt with at the next commissioners’ conference. She said a most interesting talk had been given by Mrs McInnes. Dominion commissioner for publicity, who stated that, the recent Girl Guide “Work a Week” had been rreat. publicity for the movemen* Up to date £4OOO had been handed in, and so far she had scrutinised only half the cards and over 10,000 jobs had been done. It was expected that when the final total was reached the Guides would have undertaken 50.006 throughout New Zealand. People had | been glad to pay for what, was a real service to the community. Mrs White said the guest speaker had been Mr Cooksey, M.8.E., Dominion Commissioner for the training for the Boy Scout Association and he stressed the spirit of guiding. During the war it was forced to go underground, but the spirit still went on. Mrs White thanked Mrs Casford for her work for the Local Association and wished her hap niness in her new home in Hamilton. It was decided to hold a garden narty at “Tirohanga,” when the rebuilding of the hut was completed early in the year. Supper and a social hour ended the meeting.

A’ dinner dress designed by Peter Russell made in fine chiffon tweed in the new colour “red pewter.” The pleated corsage has two large chrysanthemums to tone tucked into it, and there is pleating at the back of the skirt.
