Britain Agrees To Pay Denmark More For Bacon

LONDON, Dec 21 (Recd 11,55 pm). —The Food Ministry announced that Britain has agreed to an increase of 5J per cent, in the price of bacon purchased from Denmark in 1951. Denmark originally asked for an increase of per cent. Britain, in future, will pay 12s more than the present price of 217 s a hundredweight. Talks on bacon prices were broken oft on November 24, when the Dane? rejected a British offer to piy 8s more, but were resumed in London this week. The Danes’ request for an increase of 7B per cent, was based on a clause in the long-term contract with Britain which permits an annual price review with a movement of 75 per cent, in either direction. The “Daily Telegraph” siys the settlement of price differences with Denmark may allow the Food Ministry to increase the bacon ration in the near futuie. Denmark is Britain’s largest, supplier and the Food Minister (Mr Webb) recently told the House of| Commons that he is anxious to raise| the ration as soon as possible.
