“Back From Boer War”
SYDNEY, Dec. 21.—When Mr Thomas Gibson, 72, arrived in Sydney by air from Vancouver he surprised Customs officials by saying he was returning from active service in the Boer War. In confirmation of this, he produced a faded discharge certificate and receipt for a £5 war gratuity. Mr Gibson left Australia in 1901 for South Africa with the Mounted Rifles. He says: “I always meant to come back, but never seemed to get around to it." He has been in Canada for o/er 40 years and has returned to visit his sister.
