Wanganui Horses To Race At Awapuni
Several Wanganui horses with engagements at the Manawatu meeting, opening tomorrow, had their final gallops yesterday morning on the course proper, with the poles 25ft out. The going was on the slow side. Fog again blotted out the early gallops. Editor was hitting out well in a spin over three furlongs. Wave Crest was sent for a good working gallop over a mile, and she wac finishing on strongly, being brought home over the last three by Hamilton. Paddy Joe was clear of Subject at the end of three furlongs but could not be timed. Paddy Joe is commencing to put sure of his old-time dash Into his work. Jus' before the fog lifted Aberdeen
put in a circuit at threequarter pac>-. Parlous left a mile behind in 1.47, the last six in 1.20. Mr Justice did two rounds of pace work. He will race on the third day at Awapuni. Count Minerva and Foursome, the latter the filly by Felous out of Handsome Girl, finished on terms over a half a mile in 51. Arigead and The Pro kept together over four furlongs, both hitting out well, but they were not timed. Good Record and Blue Smoke ran seven furlongs, being picked up at the three by the juvenile Spiron. Good Record and Spiron finished together in 1.37, the last three in 40 1-5, with Blue Smoke a couple of lengths away. Regal Right. (W. G. Eales) and Black Ash (G. Dobson) kept together over three furlongs in 39 3-5, the former appearing a trifle sore afterwards. Already was a length in front of Gathered Gold, after the latter had made the early pace, to register 1.5 for five furlongs. Flying Cash (J. Pratt) and Red Ruler (N. McKinnon) worked round to the six and came home in 1.9 2-5, with little between them at the finish. Background and a Beau Vite filly finished together in 52 for four furlongs. Green Rushes (Chote) jumped off at the six furlongs to run the first two in 25 1-5. Then, under a good hold, she ran home over the last four in 54. Check (Nelson) shaded Beniti (Eales) over half a mile in 52 4-5. Skipalong (Eales) Tind Manitou (Nelson) finished on terms over four furlongs in 51 1-5, Manitou being under restraint. Brown Jester (Reid) cleared two flights of the schooling hurdles in good style but ran off at the third. Taken back, he jumped two more flights as well.
