The Minister of Education (Mr. Algie) will spend the Christmas and New Year holidays in Auckland. Mr. R McKenzie, chief postmaster at Thames, retires this month. ,He| will be replaced by Mr. J. E. Contis, of Westport, Mr. P. F. Higgins has been elected chairman of the Napier Harbour Board. Mr. C. A. R. Walker, of Hastings. is deputy-chairman. Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P., has been re-elected chairman of the Franklin County Council for the 23rd. consecutive term. The Rt. Rev. L. S. Kempthorne, Bishop of Polynesia, has returned to Sydney after visiting New Zealand for the Canterbury centennial celebrattons. Mr. A. C. Clarke, first general manager of the Auckland Harbour Board, a'nd formerly on the staff of the Port of London Authority, will arrive in] Wellington by the Wanganella on January 15. The Rev. J. F. Martin, of Wanganui, Is visiting Auckland for the funeral of his brother, Mr. W. Lee Marti'n, a former Minister of Agriculture in the Labour Government. He was member for Raglan. Mr. Lee Martin was 80 years of age. Mr Roy Currie Buchanan, D.F.C., a war-time pilot, has been presented with the United States Air Medal for meritorious service in North Africa.
