Fire Destroys A Takapuna Factory
AUCKLAND. East Night (PA).— Fire partially destroyed the factory of the Cooper Manufacturing Co. Ltd., makers of louvre windows, at Northcroft Street, Takapuna, late this afternoon. The fire swept through the paints and oil in the spraying workshop and in less than five minutes the whole weatherboard frame building was ablaze. The owner, Mr. ECooper, was not able to estimate his loss today. When he was told to gei out, said Mr. Cooper, hp was in the front of the building with no signs of the fire visible to him. He found a telephone book and by the time he had it open, he could not see the pages for smoke. The Takapuna engine of the Nor.h Shore Fire Brigade was rolling out of the station by the time the alarm sounded. The men had seen lhe billowing smoke before a street alarm was broken. The fire w s under control in about 20 minutes. Measuring about 80ft. by 30ft., the building contained glass slat: and metal uprights for the windows and various machines for processing them.
