Not Hopeful Of An Increase In Butter Ration

LONDON, Dec. 20 (Recd. 8 pm).— Comment’’-’? on the general position of butter n Britain, Mr G. C. Kcngham told the annual, meeting of the Wholesale Produce Merchants’ Association that ho was not very optimistic about increased supplies and a higher ration.

“The Danes have recently sold some 30,000 tons to Germany and lesser amounts to other Continental countries, so wp look like getting appreciably less from them and from other producers on account of the fact that they are all upset at Britain’s refusal 1o anply higher prices in snite of the devaluation of the pound,” ho said. “Although we had a five ounce butter ration this year, from April to September, it does not look as though we have much hope of seeing any protracted spell of ration at that level in 1951. Six or eight weeks of it, in my opinion, would be about as much as can be anticipated.”
