COMMONWEALTH TO CONSIDER DEFENCE CO-ORDINATION
CANBERRA, Dec. 19 (Recd. Bpm) Authoritative sources say proposals for the creation of a central . secretariat of the British Commonwealth to co-ordinate interdependent features of defence are likely to emerge from the conference of Prime Ministers in London next month. The co-ordina-tion of the Commonwealth defence effort was urged upon Mr Attlee by Mr Menzies during his visit last July. It is understood this question wl)i be discussed more fully next month. ■lf the British countries embark on a programme of the stockpiling 01 strategic raw materials without coordination and consultation, the result would be a sharp rise in prices and an uneven distribution of needed commodities. Mr Menzies believes such a coordinated effort could be extended ever a wider range of activities, including the standardisation of equipment.
