Hundreds Die Among “Pilgrims” Flocking To Obtain Miracle Cure

NEW DELHI. Dec. 18.—Five bundied people have died from cholera in three days in Orissa, and hundreds are dangerously ill among the thousands who flocked to Rantalai, a village near Cuttack, to receive a “cureall” herb being distributed by a 12-year-old shopherd boy named Nepali Baba. The Orissa Government has banned distribution of the miracle drug, following a report by a committee of experts that claims of cures | were fictitious. The Government is arranging mass cremations and inoculations and is evacuating nearly 60,000 “pilgrims by special trains, buses and trucks. Police are guarding the shepherd boy’s hut to prevent cure seekers obtaining the herb, and all persons aie ( prohibited from entering an area with- ■ in five miles radius of the hut.
