Art Union Drawing. The drawing of the “Prizes For Xmas’’ art union will take place in Wellington today, commencing at 9.25 a.m. Fires In London Street. Three grass fires broke out near the railway line in London Street yesterday between 11.30 a.m. and 1 p.m. They were quickly put out by the Wanganui Fire Brigade. Christmas Message. The New Zealand frigates serving in Korean waters have been sent a Christmas message by the Minister of Defence (Mr. Macdonald) and the Navy Board. Honour For Ship Believed to be the only ship of the Main Body convoy of 1914 still trading under the British flag is the Shaw Savill liner Waimana. She is expected to be appointed an honorary life member of the Auckland branch of the Main Pody Association on her return to New Zealand from Great Britain on January 11. During World War 11, the Waimana was a camouflaged ship resembling a Sove-reign-class battleship. Library Hours The Alexander Library will close on Saturday morning for the Christmas holidays, reopening on Wednesday, December 27. It will close on Friday, December 29, for the New Year observance. To extend the time available for school-children subscribers to change their books the junior department of the library will be open on Thursday afternoon, December 28, the librarian, Mr. K. G. Mawson, said yesterday. Normally, the junior department is closed each Thursday. Ambulance Cases. Yesterday the Wanganui Aero Club’s Proctor was used to take an urgent stretcher case from Palmerston North to Dunedin. On the return journey, a patient was taken from Dunedin to Wellington. The Proctor was flown by the club’s instructor (Mr. K. E. Fenwick). Today the Proctor will take an ambulance case to Te Kuiti and on Thursday a flight will be made to Whangarei. During the last six weeks a considerable number of ambulance cases have been handled by the Proctor, including three trips to Dunedin.
