Castlecliff-Gonville Townswomen’s Guild Party
The Scout Hall, Gonville, was bright with flowers for the combined monthly meeting and Christmas party held by the Castlecliff-Gonville Townswomen’s Guild on December 12. MemIbers and representatives from other j women's organisations in the district were welcomed by Mrs Norman, who (presided. The programme comprised carols, led by Mrs R. N. Wilson, who also contributed two monologues; songs, Mrs Triplow, accompanied by Mrs Crawford; elocution, Miss Diane Whiting; recitations, Mr Turner; violin solos, Mr McCaul, accompanied by Mrs McCaul. Floral sprays were presented to the women and buttonholes to the men. Mrs Broadhead, a new member, and Mrs P. Cate, a former member, were also welcomed. Miss Jetson, secretary of the Y.W.C.A., spoke of the Carols by Candlelight to be held on Christmas Eve and asked all to attend. Competitions resulted: Best bloom, Mrs Hayward 1, Mrs Taylor and Mrs A. Anthony equal 2; posy in an eggcup, Mrs Pearce 1, Mrs Woodley 2. The aggregate points prize for the year was won by Mrs A. Anthony with Mrs Norman runner-up. The mystery parcel donated by Mrs B. Anthony was won by Mrs Morton. Mrs Morcan gave the health hint. Committee members were the tea hostesses and the stall was in charge of Mrs Gilliver. and Mrs A. Anthony. Mrs Simmons proposed a vote of thanks to those contributing to the programme, and this was carried by acclamation.
Gift Evening In honour of Miss Violet Hendry, whose marriage takes place early in the New Year, a gift evening was given on Saturday night by Mrs Doretta Kilner at her home in St. George’s Gate. There were about 3(1 present, including members of the Wanganui Amateur Musical and Dramatic Society. Games, competitions and community singing, with Mr R. London at the piano, were enjoyed. On behalf of his fiancee, Mr Frank McCarten thanked the hostess for the, pleasant evening.
