Atlantic Pact Council Meets In Brussels
LONDON, DEC. IS (Recd. 6 p.m.). —The “Daily Telegraph's” diplomatic correspondent says that the Foreign Minister (Mr. Bevin) will discuss with the French Foreign Minister, Mr. Schuman, at an Atlantic Council meeting, opening in Brussels today the latest Russian notes to Britain and France. The notes allege that the Atlantic Powers are preparing to direct a military alliance with Germany which is a serious threat to peace” and they accuse Britain and France of breaking the Anglo-Soviet and FrancoSoviet treaties. The “Daily Mail” and Reuter Brussels correspondents say the meeting will be the biggest ever concentration of western political leaders. Their aim is to put the seal on a plan for a north-Atlantic combined forc« commanded by General Eisenhower and including a contingent of 150.000 Germans. If the German rearmament plan is approved at Brussels it is intended Io call a conference with the West German Government, possibly before the end of December. The Germans will be offered concessions, such as lifting the occupation Statute for accepting the arms plan.
