North Ranqitikei Beats South Rangitikei In Cricket Match

TAIHAPE, Last Night (OC).— North Rangitikei beat South Rangitikei by 133 on the first innings in a match which opened at Taihape on Saturday and concluded today.

North Rangitikei batted first and compiled 270 runs, the principal scorers being C. Merrett 76, N. Ashenden 66, R. Woodhead 36 and H. Jones 28. Ashenden and Merrett scored all round the wicket and gave polished exhibitions, Merret scoring his runs at a particularly fast rate. Smythe was the most successful bowler for South Rangitikei and took four wickets for 66 runs. South Rangitikei were all out for 137 runs in their first innings, the principal scores being P. Whale 46 and R. Worker 30. Bowling fsr North Rangitikei E. McCarthy took four wickets for seven runs. N. Ashenden took two for 17 and H. Jones two for 23. North Rangitikei declared their second innings closed when they had made 121 runs for four wickets. K. Nicholls made 36, J. Finney 28, H. Jones 26 and A. K. Hamilton 21. South Rangitikei had made 131 runs for four wickets in their second innings when stumps were drawn. Dickson, not out, made 43, and Timmins made 35.
