WANGANUI HORSES PREPARE FOR FEILDING
Several horses with Feilding engagements, including Wave Crest, Green Rushes, Balagmore, Good Record and Skipaiong, went particularly well in their final trials on the Wanganui tracks yesterday morning.
Fast work was done on No. 1 grass track, on which the poles were 15ft out, and the going was good, with the weather fine. Green Rushes (Chote) conceded Gathered Gold (Burt) and SkipSlong (Nelson) a couple of lengths start when they jumped off at the half-mile but she made up her leeway and was a length in front at the finish in 48 4-5. Skipaiong hung on well to clock 49 1-5, and Gathered Gold was two lengths further back. Eulo was given pacework. Seasonal troubles prevented her from giving of her best last week, and the chances are that she may not fulfil her engagement in the Taonui Nursery tomorrow. The Pro, who appears to be in good order for his early engagements, was allowed to take it easily over five furlongs in 1.8. Flying Fox (W. Lett) had his nose in front of Tory (Nelson) at the conclusion of a circuit, the last six taking 1.21. Balagmore (Chote) had Buchanan (Miss Rita Jackson) and Marching Girl (K. Lawrence) as companions over five furlongs, the trio finishing in the order named in 1.2 3-5, the first three taking 37. Aberdeen (P. Carroll) and Paisley (B. Carroll) were not required to do their best over five in 1.5, the initial quarter being covered in 24 4-5. Wave Crest (D. Couchman) was slow over the first furlong of seven but ran home over the last six in 1.16 1-5, Hamilton joining in at the three, the pair running home from there in 38. Good News (Chote) was doing it a little better than Parlous (K. Lawrence) at the end of five furlongs which took 1.4 4-5. Polleta, who appears to be in excellent order, was restricted to pacework. Good Record (Chote) was threequarters of a length in front of Already (Burt) at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.2 1-5. Good Record was doing it nicely at the finish. Already was on terms with him at the final two furlongs but was hanging Out a trifle in the run home. Red Ruler and Barlous, who are to race at Woodville, went out for a working gallop over a mile and a quarter, coming home the last six in 1.21.
