WANGANUI CRICKET CONTROL; HAWKE CUP ELIMINATION MATCH

The management committee of the Wanganui Cricket Association has been advised that Hutt Valley has ottered to play Wanganui in a Hawke Cup elimination match in the Hutt Valley on Febiuary 9, 10 and 12. Previously Wanganui had suggested that the game be played in December. After a discussion, the committee decided to request Hutt Valley to reconsider the proposal to play the game cither next month or early in January. If the reply is unsatisfactory Wanganui is to approach the New Zealand Cricket Council for a definite ruling on the matter. If the elimination match was to be played in February there would be no possibility of either team challenging for the Hawke Cup this season, and it is for this reason that Wanganui wants the elimination played at an early date. The headmaster of the Wanganui Collegiate School, Mr F. W. Gilligan, advised that a centre wicket at the school would be available to the association during January. A letter ol thanks is to be sent to the school. Mr J. A. Bergerson was elected to the grounds committee to replace Mr J. Little, who has left the city. The final matches for this year will end on December 16 and competitions will resume on January 6. The City Council advised that application for an asphalt wicket on Victoria Park will be dealt with by the new council. Mr E. C. Gee was appointed selector of the Colts team, which will go on tour during the holiday period. A deputation comprising Messrs L. W. Condlwiffe. Gee and Bergerson will meet the president of the Headmasters’ Association, Mr L. N. Ashton, to discuss schools’ assistance for schoolboy cricket.
