HUNTER VILLE NEWS

Poukiore Collie Club’s Annual Meeting HUNTERViLLE, Last Night (OCi. —“Your committee has pleasure in presenting the sixth annual report of the club,” said Mr J. Leslie Lambert at the annual meeting of the Pukiore Collie Club. “Unfortunately, we had to farewell a number of our staunchest members during the year, but we wish them well in their iew districts. However, even with these losses our membership stands at 80, being only one down cn last year.” “The linancial side of the club is, I am sorry to say, not just as good as last year, when he had a credit of £5O. This year we show a loss of £B9. However, our balance-sheet reveals assets amounting to £2Bl, while our liabilities are nil.”

“We have held several meetings during the year and all have been excellently attended and the business of the club faithfully carried out," continued Mr Lambert. “We held our trials as usual on liie last Tuesday and Wednesday of March, when the entries totalled 172 in the three main events and 60 in the bracelet events. ’

“The thanks of the club are due to those members who attended the annual meeting of the centre on our behalf and to those who lent their grounds and helped in any way with the trials, not forgetting the womenfolk who once again did an excellent job with the catering and whom w? cannot do without. Our thanks go also to those who kindly donated so freely to the club during the year. We wish to congratulate all the competitors who won events during the trials. We thank those from neighbouring clubs who gave valuable help, especially the three judges, who carried out their duties so ably. T 1 >« with pleasure that we are able to report that the two cups won outright have already been replaced. Our sympathy is extended to those who lost relatives and friends during the year and I especially make mention of Mr A. McAlley, one of our foundation members, who has left behind an example of life which any young members of our club may well follow. “I wish especially to thank our secretary and treasurer, Mr J. T. Berrett, for the very good job he has done, which has made everything easier for those concerned. I also wish to thank all tl* members of the club for their loyal support to me as president during the past year.” Election of Officers. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: Patron, Mr L. McLean; president, Mr Leslie Lambert; deputy-president, Mr C. Chisholm: vice-oresidents, Messrs T. Hammond, S.. Guiniven, W. Agnew, W. Green, L. D. Lambert, V. Anson, F. H. Powell and L. Illston; executive committee, Messrs N. Paget, K. Scott, W. Agnew, D. Nottage and S. Guinlven; secretary and treasurer. Mr J. T. Berrett; delegate to the Wanganui Centre annual meeting, Mr K. Scott. A programme of events similar to that of last year was agreed to for the next trials, but a fourth class, a straight huntaway, was added. The trials at Pcukiore next March will be the Wanganui Centre championships. SWIMMING CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING. The advisability of continuing affiliation with the Wanganui Centre was the subject of a rather spirited discussion at the annual meeting of the Hunterville Amateur Swimming Club, which was held last week. Some members questioned t! * benefits of affiliation as the club received very little in the way of information concerning the centre’s activities last year, while the club's delegate received only one notice to attend a centre meeting. Other members, however, considered affiliation a necessity in order to give any promising swimmers a chance of better competition in the championships. It was agreed to continue affiliation as previously. There was a fair attendance of members, but, as the president, Mr E. W. Donovan, pointed out, the interest taken by most parents and adults was very little. In actual fact the club would be hard put to it to supply sufficient officials at the weekly club nights if more helpers did not come to light. The balance-sheet showed the finances of the club to be in a fairly sound position. The credit balance stands at £32. It was agreed that the subscriptions remain the same as last year.

The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: Patron, Mr T. A. Duncan; president, Mr E. W Donovan; vice-presidents, Mesdames Berkahn and H. Hunger; secretary, Mr D. J. Crossan; treasurei, Mr J. A. McQueen; club captain, Miss M. Shindler; vice-captain, Mrs R. Watts; hon. auditor, Mr H. Hunger; general committee. Misses N. Clarke. E. Clarke, F. Morton, Messrs G. Clarke. M. Sullivan, G. Coleman and K. Hill; social committee, Mesdames Mant, Lewis, Aitken, J. Taylor, Watts, Coleman. Messrs N. Green, M. Sullivan, J. Berkahn, J. Hallwood and J. Craig. The delegate to the Wanganui Centre is to be elected at the next club meeting. WOMEN'S DIVISION.

There was a good attendance at the November meeting of the Hunterville W.D.F.F., which was presided over by Mrs S. McAlley. The meeting opened in the usual way. Several apologies for absence were received. Sympathy was expressed to those members who had suffered bereavement. and several members who were unable to attend through sickness were extended best wishes. A small amount of business r.—• correspondence was dealt with. It was intimated that the provincial meet ir.g will be held in Hunterville next February and members were asked to attend, as it will take the- place of the usual monthly meeting. It was decided that the December meeting he held in the evening, when a programme of carols by candlelight will be giver. Each member was asked to bring c Christmas gift costing not more than 2s 6d for exchange. The coinpetition will be for a specimen bloom only.

Mrs H. Walker, who had charge of the social hour, conducted a quiz Session and demonstrated the making of celophane hats. The hostesses, Mesdames V/. Duncan, C. Morrisor. and P. Weston, served a dainty afternoon tea.

A pleasing number of Christmas stockings were entered in the competition and these will be sent to children in hospital. The winners of the competition were: Mrs H. Meads 1, Mrs P. Weston 2, Mrs J. I>L Abel and Mrs R. Still (equal) 3, Mrs. J. H. Morrison 4; specimen bloom, Mesdames P. Weston, C. Morrison and Green, five points each.
