Wool Values Maintained At Napier

iNArifcK, bast Night (PA).—The top price of 132 d at the opening day of the first, wool sale of the season in Napier was obtained for a parcel of superfine well-styled hogget wool. There was little change in the market this afternoon when the remaining portion of the first half of the catalogue was sold. A small offering of come-back wool from the Chester Hope property, near Napier, made 128 id, while another keenly sought line realised 126 d. New Zealand mills purchased both these latter offerings. Prices paid for crossbred wool compared favourably with earlier sales and good fleece lines of ewe in this category made from 1121 d to 117 id, hoggets selling freely at between 113 d and 117 d, while top lines commanded up to 126 id. This afternoon Continental operators met with more opposition than during the morning, and when some of the choice coastal clips came on the market during the latter part of the day there was a hardening tendency for ewe and adult sheep fleeces. Hogget wool held firmly to opening rates throughout. The second portion of the catalogue is to be disposed of on Thursday. The brokers’ official report jtated: “The opening Napier sale of the new season commenced today, when the first three catalogues, comprising 19,366 bales of growers’ greasy wool and 1708 bales of stock pile, were offered to a full bench of buyers. The wools opened up in excellent order and many lots were outstanding as to quality and style. As the sale progressed it was evident these lots were being bought apparently without limit as to price. On the whole, however, the competition could best be described as restricted, with Continental interests dominating the market. The U.S.A, and Canada were active on suitable lots.’’ The official range of prices were:— 1
