SANDY'S CORNER
IS ANBODY HELPED? A man has won a world record for length of time being buried alive?— So what? ONE GOT AWAY Apparently it has been an "open season for county chairmen’’ in New Zealand this time, but Wanganui has proved that some chairmen are h.'4.'<> to get. Arthur Collins is back agtin, and we feel that the great majority ot ’ the county is pleased. GOLFERS BEWARE! It is understood, though we hav« been unable to obtain full confirmation, that those in charge of the Wanganui Returned Services golf tournament, to be played at Belmont next Saturday, are obtaining quotes from insurance companies to cover the participants from the ‘‘danger’’ of holing in one! To accomplish that feat at • “Digger-Kiwi’’ show would be serious indeed. We well remember the first tournament we attended at Belmont The very wattles trembled, and Uncle Fred, who was then secretary of the Wanganui Golf Club at that time, said that the birds did not come back te Be'mont for months afterwards, got such a fright. “Windy" came down from Karioi with a brand new golf club and they made him hit of? with the same pack up as he had carried on Gallipoli. He hroka the club! He then had the unpleasant task of watching a chap who had carried a battle ortjer pack through Flanders put the same sort of pack up and hit a ball down the fairway as though it was no effort! Presentation of the ’ Afug's" Trophy was a highlight of the day. It is reported that all these “old camnaigne’ , s’’ will be back “in action’’ again in the “Battle of Beltnont’’ on Saturday and that the “Kiwis’’ will be there in even stronger force. Pity th* poor thrushe s and blackbirds.
