CYCLIST ABANDONS TRIP FROM AUCKLAND TO WELLINGTON

According to a report received in Wanganui last evening, the veteran 41-year-old Palmerston North road cyclist, A- Jennings, whq was on his way from Auckland to Wellington, abandoned his trip at Mokau, 56 miles north of New Plymouth. Jennings was out to beat the road cycling record of Dudley Mitchell, Wanganui, established in September. Jennings left Auckland early yesterday morning and advice from Te Kuiti later in the day indicated that he was riding into strong head winds. He carried on as far as Mokau, where he abandoned the trip late in the afternoon. Mitchell covered the journey from Auckland to Wellington in 30 hours 11 minutes, and Jennings hoped to reduce this time to 29 hours.
