WANGANUI HORSES FOR FEILDING EVENTS
With the Feilding Jockey Club’s concluding day to be held on Saturday, and the Woodville and Levin meetings to follow before the holiday racing claims attention, Wanganuitrained horses got through some useful work under good weather conditions yesterday morning. After rain the previous day the going was dead on No. 1 track, where the poles were out about 15ft. Eulo and Subject were restricted to trotting and half-pace work. The former was not seen at her best last Saturday, the Timanova filly suffering from seasonal trouble. Jumping well for a new chum at the game, Balagmore, with K. Lawrence in the saddle, was schooled over the pony battens. He will be ridden by K. Chote in the Rongotea Hack Handicap on Saturday. Hamilton (D. Couchman) and Paisley (P. Carroll) went an easy five furlongs in 1.7. Paisley, who was going very nicely, is to run on Saturday in the Fitzroy Hack Handicap, but so far no rider has been announced. Aberdeen, looking in great fettle, was restricted to pacework. Parlous (Reid) and Good News (Chote) kept together throughout a good working gallop over half a mile in 53. Meriden, looking none the worse for his race on Saturday, did easy pacework. He will race next at Woodville, where trainer W. M. Bennett will also produce Spoil Sport, who is looking well. Buchanan was striding out particularly well in running half a mile in 54 3-5 with his trainer, Miss Rita Jackson, ip the saddle. G. S. Rayner is to put Paddy Joe into work again within a few days after a spell following his tilt at the New Zealand Cup. Desert Ore left two furlongs behind in 27, a good effort for her first sprint. Desert Ore is a two-year-old filly by the Wellington Cup winner Lambourn j from Silver Ore, and is therefore a ' half-sister to Already. Wave Crest was restricted to pacework. She appears all the better for I her race last Saturday and will again : be ridden by B. Carroll. Good Record finished in front of i The Pro after running the last halfmile of seven furlongs in 54. Good Record is all the better for his race | last Saturday. Gathered Gold slipped over three fur- j longs in 37 4-5. K. Webster sprinted four of his ; juveniles over three furlongs, Check and Beniti doing 41 and Regal Light and a half-sister to Broiesome 38 3-5. A couple of two-year-old geldings in W. A. Russell's stable, Plymouth Hoe (by Francis Drake) and Spiron ' (by Spiral) ran two furlongs in 26.
