WESTERN (WANGANUI) BUILDING SOCIETY REPORTS PROGRESS
Presided over by Mr. W. J. Gilbert the 6th. annual meeting of the Western (Wanganui) Co-Op. Building ociety was held recently. Addressing the meeting Mr. Gilbert said that three new records had been established in the past year. Firstly, more than £33,000 had been loaned on house properties during the year under review. Secondly, the reserves of the society had been more than doubled. Lastly, the subscriptions received from shareholders had risen so as to exceed £2B 000 during the 12 months. Mr. Gilbert referred to the Government suspensory loan scheme, the benefits of wjiich can be made available to the society’s members. He felt that members generally were not aware of this fact and further, that the individual member did not fully appreciate the assistance the society could give in arranging housing finance. In concluding he urged members to seek the assistance of the society with housing problems. During the evening a total of £lO.800 was made available for appreciation to members Mr G. P. Williamson an*’- Mr. R. Andrews, retiring direct jrs were reelected for a further term.
