BRITAIN EXPECTED TO REFUSE TO MEET FAROUK’S DEMANDS

LONDON, Nov 20 (Recd 6 pm).— The ‘Daily Telegraph’s” diplomatic correspondent says the Foreign Minister (Mr. Bevin) is expected today to make a statement in the House of Commons that Britain has no intention of withdrawing troops from the Canal Zone in Egypt.

This morning Cabinet will consider Mr. Bevin’s statement, which is a reply to the demand by King Farouk for the ending of the two nations’ 1936 treaty providing for British troops in Egypt. Egypt’s Foreign Minister (Saleh El Din Bey) is expected in London on Wednesday. His visit is specifically to discuss Egypt’s, 300,000,00 sterling balances, but it is believed that the talks with Mr. Bevin will also cover King Farouk’s demand.
