Victorian Rail Workers To Continue Strike

MELBOURNE, November 19 (Recd. 11 p.m.).—A mass meeting of Victorian rail guards today voted by 390 to ten to continue the strike until their demands are met. A conference of the Australian Council of Trades Unions with 19 strike-affected unions, unanimously endorsed the decision to continue the strike.

The Victorian premier (Mr McDonald) and the State Transport Minister (Mr. Hyland) reiterated that they will not. depart from arbitration. Meanwhile in South Australia the railway strike has collapsed and normal suburban trains will resume tomorrow. Because the grass between the tracks has to be burnt off, country services may not be normal for a week.
