N.Z. TO TRY AND NOT MAKE MESS OF SELLING MEAT TO AMERICA
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA).— The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board is planning to send all types of meat to the United States and Canada, where the prospects are considered good. The chairman of the board, Mr. G. H. Grigg; addressing a recent meeting of the Dominion Meat and Wool Council of Federated Farmers, said that Australia had made “a horrible mess” of selling to North American markets, but the board did not intend
to have the same thing happen with New Zealand meat. Australia, he said, had got a thousand tons freed for export to alternative markets outside Britain, and had tried to export it by September 30. Every exporter was allowed a proportion. “The result was a horrible mess,” he said. “The meat has been hawked round, getting low prices and upsetting the American farmers, and is being handled in a completely wrong way “Now we have got to live this down. Our manager says there is a good market if our meat is sold in the proper way. We suggest sending it over or. a consignment basis. We intend ot send all types. We want to get our lamb into the States and Canada in April and May."
