SANDY'S CORNER

EXHIBITION. Lex Seivewright’s next job for Wanganui—organising a big industrial exhibition. We suggest he has a “Comic Court" in it, just in memory of 50,000 quid somebody got! It wasn’t, us Our share was £l. You cant very well have a Chicquita court, or can you. A GOOD TALE DESTROYED! The Standard of Saint Andrew's will be flown at half-mast today. There is, after all, no Loch Ness "Monster"! The Navy has torpedoed this 32-year-old belief. We will have to revise our belief that there is a “monster" in Lake Virginia. We have always held that if there was a monster in Ness, there could be one just as easily in Virginia! But, alas, Lake Ness is monster-less. WENT HILLY INSTEAD OF HALL-Y It happened at St. John's Hall, Liverpool Street. The guests gathered there with right good will the other day to celebrate two anniversaries—a birthday of one who had lived three-quarters of a century and the retirement of another from telephone exchange duties which had lasted aquarter of a century. Now you don't celebrate things like that without a bite to cat, and the guests roamed round hopefully with looks that hovered between sandwiches and savouries and ginger snaps, but no afternoon tea made an appearance! Somebody suggested a trip down to town but the mystery was solved when it was discovered that the afternoon tea had gone to St. John’s Hill in preference to St. John’s Hall. Quite a simple mistake really, but the hostess lived every moment of it! You bet she did! How she survived she doesn't quite know, even yet. And to add to the day's little mishaps a friend gave an address on a visit to South Africa when everybody was expecting the hostess to present birthday gifts to her friends. Not only did the cakes get mixed, but the programme did. too. Still, anything is likely to happen when a hall and a hill bear the same name! This is a woolly »ort of town, don’t forget.
