Now Crown Land Advice had been received that the old railroad track over the Turakina Hill, no longer used since the tunnel deviation was opened at the end of 1947, was now classified as unoccupied Crown land, reported the Inspector of Noxious Weeds, Mr. J. Robinson, at the monthly meeting of the Rangitikei County Council yesterday. Rails and sleepers had been removed, but gorse was prevalent on the old roadbed and arrangements had been made for an inspection by the Inspector of Stock at Wanganui, in whose district the land was situated.
