Shorn Wether Values Fully Firm At Stortford Lodge

HASTINGS, Last Night (PA).— I Shorn wether values at Stortford Lodge today were fully firm when this class of sheep predominated in a store yarding of 5892 head. Woolly ewes with lambs at foot were dearer by fully Is 6d a head. The market for wethers opened on a brisk note, and tended to firm as the sale pro-! gressed. Buyers from Wanganui and the Manawatu set a keen pace with the bidding, and a good proportion of the offering will go out of the district. Over-all, the quality of the entry was rather better than for some‘weeks. A new record level for two-tooth wethers off the shears of 60s 5d was obtained for the top cut of a quality consignment. Other shorn two-tooth wethers changed hands at from 55s 6d to 59s 3d, and four-tooths brought from 56s 3d to 58s Id. A srngle line of woolly wethers realised £5 16s, and woolly ewes with lambs at foot were traded at from 36s to 50s 3d all counted. Except for an odd pen or two, quality was lacking in a short store cattle yarding of 245 head, but this did not, detract from the strength of the in-. quiry. There w r as plenty of competition so that late rates were maintained. Good bullocks sold at £26 15s, ; lighter at £22 ss, medium two-year steers at from £l3 to £lB 10s, small j at £l3, medium yearling steers at £l3 j to £l3 18s, small at from £8 9s to £9 j 11s, empty cows at £l7 9s, and empty two-year heifers at £l7 10s. The market for fat cattle firmed on last week’s rates, bullocks again being dearer by about 20s a head, and fe- J male cattle dearer by about 25s a head. The yarding of 132 head, again insufficient for buyers’ requirements, 1 consisted mainly of bullocks, cows 1 making up the major portion of the female cattle offering. An offering of 15 well-conditioned bullocks made from £33 Ils to £3B 16s, with a single heavy beast bringing £43 18s 6d. The average was £36 15s. A draft of 20. head made from £34 13s 6d to £39 Is,, an average of £36 14s, and another i draft of 20 head realised from £3O Is 1 to £37 3s 6d. A single heavy bullock. made £43 18s 6d, prime realising from £34 8s 6d to £39 Is, medium-weight

I from £3O Is to £33 11s. light, £2B 3s , 6d and inferior £23 8s 6d. Prime i heifers changed hands at £2B 3s 6d; medium-weight, from £2l ’Bs 6d to £25 13s 6d, and unfinished at £l4 8s 6d. prime cows bringing £22 13s 6d and medium weight from £lB 13s 6d to £3113s 6d. I A tendency to hold back was ap> parent in the bidding for fat sheep, the result being a slight easing in the market. The yarding of about 1 1000 head comprised mainly shorn sheep, only seven pens of woollies ■ being offered. Two-tooth wethers did not appreciate in price along with other classes, but remained firm on 1 recent rates, maintaining realisations on par with older wethers. Prime wethers realised from 56s lOd to 61s 4d; medium weight, from 53s 4d to ' 55s lOd, and light from 41s lOd to 48s. One pen of prime wethers in . the wool was traded at £5 13s 4d. Prime ewes made from 36s 4d to 39s lOd, and unfinished from 23s 4d to • 31s lOd. Prime younger ewes brought from 51s 4d to 55s 4d; medium weight. ‘ from 59s lOd, and light from 37s 7d ito 40s lOd.
