DUKE AND DUCHESS OF SUTHERLAND ROBBED OF JEWELS WORTH £60,000

LONDON, Nov. 6 (Bee. 6 pm). —The Duke and Duchess of Sutherland were robbed last night >f jewels worth £60,000 while they sat playing cards with a party of friends.

The robbery took place at a cottage they own. 200 yards from the Duke’s historic mansion, Suton Place, in the middle of 1300■icre Sutton Park, Guildford. The thieves used a fire escape ladder hey took front a shed. They put it against the roof of the kitchen innexe and climbed through a window into the Duchess’s bedroom. ,

The Duke’s estate manager said that the two boxes stolen included family jewels and some of the Duchess’s own personal jewels.

The robbery is the biggest in Britain since the war. Alsatian dogs which roam the park at night were not disturbed.
