GUIDE RANGE'S CONCERT PARTY WELL RECEIVED BY WANGANUI AUDIENCE

The first appearance in Wanganui of Guide Rangi, world famous personality and her concert party at the Opera House last night pleased a very appreciative audience with a concert that was something quite out of the ordinary.

Guide Rangl’s troupe, through long experience and constant practice, has a professional touch. The poi dancing was performed with fine precision, and the long poi and the canoe poi were given new twists and twirls, particularly in the treble combination poi in which three lines of dancers twirled different patterns. The entertainment began in the usual way with the ceremonial meeting and greeting of two tribes on the open Marae, ending with Ka Mate A Mate haka of joy. The singing of Hapene Waratini charmed the audience with her lulltoned contralto voice singing Waiata Poi with full ballet in support. Also, by special request, with chorus an unusual rendering of Annie Laurie. Guide Rangi proved a droll humourist in her role of compere, and al: members of the party performed with full gusto. Tlie hakas were enthusistically received, particularly the women's haka which received a recall. This excellent concert was concluded with the well known vocal number, "Now is the Hour.'’
