WOMEN’S INSTITUTES Foretell

Owing to boisterous weather conditions there was not a large attendance at the October Flower Show meeting. Mrs Glasgow gave the motto “When skys are blue and days are bright a kitchen garden is my delight.” Business was quickly dealt with, and the guest speaker, Mr Thomas of the Department of Agriculture was introduced. His talk on the kitchen garden was most helpful to all. Mrs Power moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Thomas. Competitions were: Lettuce, Mrs Hucker 1, Mrs Morgan 2, Miss Flyger 3. The bring and buy stall in charge of Mrs Higgins and helpers was very successful. Three members received gifts from the birthday box. Competitions results were as follows: Child’s toy, Mrs Garner 1, Mrs Gillies 2, Mrs Prichard 3. Best bloom, Mrs Shanks 1, Mrs Scott jn. 2. Mrs Hunt and Mrs Palmer, equal 3. Spring cabbage, Mrs McKernan 1.
