Wanganui East Retains The Keesing Cup
Defeating Taihape by 24 to 20, the Wanganui East Bowling Club retained the Keesing Cup for the ninth time since last December. The teams were: Wanganui East, Rowan, Raine, Fletcher, Dempster; Taihape, McCulloch, Marsh, Murphy, Barnett. A four to Taihape on the seventh made the score 9-all, but three to Wanganui East on the tenth again made the score level 12-all. Three to the challengers on the thirteenth made the score 16-14 in favour of Taihape. On the fifteenth Taihape laid 4, but Fletcher for Wanganui East trailed kitty back for 4, and Dempster, the Wanganui East skip drew another making five to Wanganui East, the score then being 19-18 to Wanganui East. On the next end, the sixteenth, Taihape laid 4, but Fletcher “killed” the head. In the replay Wanganui East scored three making the score 22-18 in the holders’ favour. In the remainder of the game Wanganui East scored two more points to Taihape’s two, making the final score Wanganui East 24, Taihape 20.
