WAVERLEY NOTES

Indoor Bowls WAVERLEY, Last Night (0.C.). The final night of the season of the Indoor Bowling Club was held on Wednesday in St. Andrew's Hall, when friendly games were played with teams from the Whenuakura and Patea Clubs. Waverley won one game and lost one to Patea and one to Whenuakura. Results were as follows: Waverley (E. Morgan skip) won from Patea, 21 to 19, Waverley, (G. Holmes skip) lost to Whenuakura, 16 to 30, Waverley (G. Milne skip) lost to Patea 14 to 17. Mr E. Morgan, president of the Waverley Club thanked the visitors for attending and making the evening such a pleasant one. Mr Norm Mitchell, president of the Patea Club, thanked the Waverley Club for the competition games and offered the support and help of the neighbouring clubs to Waverley. As the Waverley Indoor Bowls has only been formed this season it has been encouraging to see such a number of members attend. It is hoped next year to extend the activities of the club and cater for more members. Farewell Presentation At a recent meeting of St Andrews’ Presbyterian Church Managers, the opportunity was taken of making a presentation of an inscribed fountain pen to Mr. W. Thompson, who is leaving the district to take up residence in Wellington. On behalf of the Session and the Managers, Mr T. R. Wall, in making the presentation, spoke of Mr Thompson’s work in the church, as Manager, Bible Class leader and his unfailing help in the pulpit when no minister has been available. The best wishes of the Session and Managers were extended to him. Rainfall. The rainfall for October totalled 3.46 inches, which is slightly lower than the rainfall recorded in the previous month. For the last four months the rainfall, registered has only varied very slightly. The rainfall recorded so far this year totals 38.36 inches. The latter part of the month was warm and, with the exception of a wet week before Labour weekend, it was like summer weather.
