County Council Declines To Support Pipiriki House Tourist Licence

Advice of the sitting of the Licensing Trust Commission in Wanganui on Tuesday, November 28, was received by the Wanganui County Council yesterday. The council was invited to present evidence on the licensing requirements within its area, with particular reference to the provision ot tourist house licences. Beyond instructing the county clerk (Mr S. L. Orr) to write to the Commission supporting all present licences within the district and stressing the necessity of retaining the licence in Mangamahu because of the need for accommodation, the council decided it had no evidence it wished to present. Mr Orr was instructed to attend the Commission’s sitting to watch the council s interests. PIPIRIKI HOUSE Also received by the council yesterday was a request from the owners of Pipiriki House for support of submissions for the granting of a tourist licence in that area. The granting of a tourist licence in the area would immeasurably benefit both Wanganui city and the county by providing additional amenities to attract overseas and New Zealand tourists, the request stated. The council decided to take no action on the request, considering Pipiriki House to be outside its area.
