Gonville Retains The Hurn Bowling Cup
Gonville retained the Hurn Cup in a Challenge match played by a four representing the Returned Sendees Bowling Club, on the Gonville green last night. The final score was: Gonville (holders) 26, returned Services 20. ft took the R.S.A. four some time to settle down and Gonville established a fair lead, which at one stage was 13 to four. Then Returned Services haci a bit of “bad luck’’—one of those shots in which the player had to take the fullest possible care. The bowl travelled up and took oqt one of the R.S.A. bowls, lying third, and instead of Gonville being two up they were six up on that end. Undaunted, the R.S.A. played on over the remaining ends and pulled up to within six of the holders. The fours were: Gonville: Stewart, J. Healey, p. J. Mailman and D. J. Armstrong (skip); Returned Services, J. Howes, F. A. Beattie, H. Kinsett and J. Johnson.
