HIGHLAND PIPE BAND REPORT DISCLOSES GOOD CREDIT BALANCE

Expressing satisfaction with the healthy state of the finances, the president of the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band, Mr. A. McSkimming, stated at the annual meeting that the greater part of the credit balance would be required to purchase new uryforms and finance the trip to Christchurch for the 1951 Dominion contest. Receipts during the twelve months up to June 30, 1950, covered by the annual report and balance-sheet, showed that the band had received £54 18s 5d in donations, £lOO from the Wanganui City Council, £5O from the Wanganui Jockey Club, £39 18s from broadcasting fees and £sl‘ 1.6 s Id as deferred proceeds from the 1949 contest at New Plymouth. In addition the hand had raised £260 17s 9d from an art union. £94 Is lOd from a week-end gala, £135 12s 8d through operating the refreshment stall at Spriggens Park and £ll 8s Id as proceeds from an up-river picnic. At the request of the president, members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of Mr. W. McKee, a former active member of the band, Mr. N. G. Glasgow, of Turakina, and Mr. A. It was announced that tha Futcher Memorial Shield, for the member showing the best band spirit, had been awarded to Mr. G. Price, who thus won the trophy for the second year in succession. Appreciation of the services of Mr. R. Robson as auditor over a period of years was placed on record. It was recommended that the incoming executive examine the position regarding honorary members with the view of ensuring a keener interest in the band’s activities.
