Young Poverty Bay Golfer Impresses As Player With Future
HASTINGS, Last Night. PA).—A good golf performance was put up by 17-year-old F. G. Gordon (Poverty Bay) when he took the Hawke’s Bay champion of champions, S. G. Jones (Hastings) to the 19th hole before the latter was able to win th e Hastings open golf championship at the Bridge Fn o’ r course on Saturday. Playing his first-year competitive go l r. Gordon impressed ebservers as a performer with a future. In the semi-finals, Jones, who had earlier beaten W. G. Horne, the Wellington nlus one player, accounted for W. B. R n i’iv (Hutt) and Gordon had beaten F. Fenwick (Poverty Bay).
