WOMEN’S INSTITUTES Aramoho
At the September meeting of the Aramoho Women’s Institute Centre, the guest speaker for the afternoon was Mrs. Farley, who gave a vety interesting talk on her recent trip to Norfolk Island. She also showed a number of Views of . the island. Mrs. Walton read the thought for the month, and Miss Margaret Hughes recited a musical monologue and sang one song. A roll call, “The Uses of Kerosene,” was well responded to by members. Competition results: Best bloom, Mrs. Pierce It Mrs. Seddon and Mrs. Sykes (equal) 2; sultana scopes, Miss Georgetti 1, Mrs. Booth 2; marmalade, Mrs. Hamling 1, Mrs. Gillum 2. Mosston The monthly meeting of the Mosston Women’s Institute was held in August. Mrs. Symans presided and welcomed all members and also Mrs. Barns, who was from the Federation. The motto was given by Mrs. Keir. A very interesting report on the Dominion Conference was given by the delegate. Mrs. Tipper, who was presented with a spray and congratulated by Mesdames Symans and Barns on such a Very interesting report. The Golden Thread was given by Mrs. Jones. Elocution items by Janette Lihd were enjoyed. Competition results were: Best flower, Mesdames Hammond 1, Lihd 2, Tipper 3; fudge, Mesdames Hammond 1, Tipper 2, Syman 3; kettleholders, Mesdames Syman 1, Brodie 2, Keir 3; papier mache, Mrs. Symans 1. Kaitoke Mrs. Shanks, president, opened the September meeting of the Kaitoke Women’s Institute with the Ode to Friendship. Several apologies were received. Mrs. Garner and Mrs. Pritchard were appointed delegates for the half-yearly council meeting. A collection was taken for the U.N.I.C.E.F. and was met with a very generous response. Songs sung by Mrs. Yeatman and Mrs. Emmet were appreciated. Mrs. Lynch gave a very comprehensive and interesting report on the Dominion Conference held in Christchurch. j A bunch of spring flowers was sent ; to a sick member, wishing her a speedy recovery.' i Several received shoulder sprays, including Mrs. Simmons, who repreI sented the Federation.
