Long Civil Case In Supreme Court Ends
WELLINGTON, Sept 7 (PA).—Mr. Justice Gresson rose from the Bench of the Supreme Court at Wellington today after presiding over one of the longest civil cases in the history of New Zealand. His associates gathered up 1053 pages of typed evidence. The case was based on allegations by Hinerapa.lhipera Ropiha and others of mismanagement of land by the Maori Trustee. Decision was reserved. The evidence, which took eight w’eeks to complete, was heard at Palmerston North and the case was transferred to Wellington for the addresses. They occupied three days. There were 30 witnesses for plaintiffs and 14 for defendant. Public Service stenographers worked in relays to record the addresses. During the hearing of the evidence at Palmerston North, Mr. P. W. Dorrington, senior counsel for the plant inffs, collapsed and died in the Court buildings. His associate, Mr. M. Poole, carried on alone. Counsel for the trustee were Messrs. T. P. Cleary and J. Grace.
