SOAP AND STRING USED TO REPAIR LEAKY GAS PIPE

AUCKLAND, Sept. 6, (PA).—How a gas pipe had been rfepaired with the aid of some soap and pieces of cloth was described by Sergeant Austing at an inquest he ! d today into the death of William Macveigh, aged 68, cleaner, before the coroner Mr. A. Addison. Sergeant Austing said that when he learned of the death he went to the premises of MacVeigh. The tap of a gas ring in the room where lie lay was turned off. There was a leak, however, in the gas pipe. A break In the pipe had been repaired with soap tied round with a picece of silk cloth. Gas was escaping from the break.

Mr. Addison returned verdict that death was caused by gas poisoning.
