120-Year-Old French Man Who Joined The Army 100 Years Ago
PARIS, Sept 7 (Recd 7 pm).— Berejka Mokntar, who joined the French Army over 100 years ago, today celebrated his 120th. birthday. Now blind and almost deaf. Berejka, who lives at Wadi El Ksour, near Harrouaghia, Algeria, was a youth of 18 when he donned the dashing uniform of the Zouves in 1848. He fought in the Crimean War and helped defend Paris against the Prussians in 1871. He went to Tonkin IndoChina with the victorious expeditionary force in 1883 and was the oldest soldier in the capture of Antanarivo, lhe Madagascan capital, in the 1895 campaign.—(Reuter).
