TRUMAN OPPOSES A LOAN TO SPAIN

WASHINGTON, Sept 6 (Recd 6 pm).—President Truman stood firm today in opposing a loan to Spain. He signed the General Appropriations Bill, but said he did not feel compelled to lend Spain 62,500,000 dollars included in the measure. In a statement, the President, said he did not consider this provision as binding. He added: “Money will be loaned to Spain whenever such loans serve the interests of the United States in the conduct of foreign relations.”
