British Freighter On Reef Is Total Loss
SYDNEY. Sept. 7 (Rec. 12.11 am). —The British freighter Empire Gladstone has been declared a total loss. The value of the ship and Her cargo is estimated at £750.000. After salvaging experts had inspected (he ship today it was decided not to make any attempt to free her. If the ship were moved from the reef she would sink in deep water. The main cargo of iron ore will be a total loss. The salvaging of :: 59 motorcar bodies is under way. Ten of the crew were put ashore 'today, but the remainder will stay on board to assist the salvaging of the deck cargo.
