AUGUST RAINFALL. August was a much brighter montn in Raetihi than is usually experienced, there being 15 frosts, followed by sunny days. Rain fell on 12 days for an aggregate of 4.41 inches, just under half of this falling on two days— August 3 and 6—when 1.08 inches was registered each day. Nine of the frosts were recorded on consecutive days. With a total of 102 wet days the rain registered for the eight months of the present year is 32.82 inches, this being well below the average for the same period over the past 10 vears. The figures for August over the previous five years were: 1949, 22 wet davs and 4 69 i’>hes of rain; If>4B, 14 and 3.82: 1947. 22 and 5.32; 1946, 28 and 10.48: 1945. 18 and 4.31. _ Unless some extraordinary rains are experienced during the remaining four months, the total for the present year will be well under the annual average. ___________
